Scenic Ireland Walking Tours Itinerary

All walking tours depart from our hotel at approx 9.15 am each morning. |
Day 1
Your walking tour adventure begins. There are three main airports servicing your walking tour destination ie Shannon,Knock or Dublin. When you arrive at your airport of choice Scenic Ireland Walking Tours will collect you and take you to your accomodation. If you are travelling by car simply drive directly to your hotel,park up your car,relax and allow Scenic Ireland Walking Tours to look after all your transport needs for the duration of your stay.Take the time to settle in to your accomodation ,enjoy the hotels facilities or just explore your surrounding environs. We will take time to discuss the following days walking tour and to assist you with any queries you may have
Day 2
Leaving our hotel we make our way to the beautiful village of Cadamstown in the heart of The Slieve Bloom mountains, for "The Silver River EcoWalk". Walking along the banks of this beautiful river that rushes down from the mountain above we see the different rock layers,the rare "Tufa Springs" and the myriad of waterfalls along its course.
Leaving this section we pass "May Scullys Cottage" to the next path along the river which brings us through the ash, hazel, holly semi natural woodlands with its attractive flora.
Keep an eye out for fallow deer, red squirrel, hen harrier (birds of prey) which are found only in a few parts of Ireland.
We make our way down to "Lughna Well" and on to Cadamstown Mill. If we are lucky local historian Paddy Heaney will give us a brief run down on this fascinating building that once was the focal point of this lovely village. We continue our journey further down river to our collection point.

Day 3
We arrive at Lough Boora Parklands, a beautiful landscape at the centre of Ireland containing a magnificent collection of natural and manmade lakes, wetlands, woodlands, 50 km of walksways and habitats for wildlife, flora and fauna.
Making our way along the track we will observe butterflies, moths, orchids, wildflowers and many species of birds including the last remaining habitat in Ireland for the native grey partridge.
Stopping at the Mesolithic site, the remains of one of the first settlements in central Ireland our walk takes us to the experience of the 50 ha outdoor Sculptor Park. Touch and feel contemporary sculpture installations that engage with this unique landscape. Having explored the sculptors dotted throughout the park we make our way alongside the lakes and birdhide back to the carpark.

Day 4
Today we travel to "The Cut" on the Slieve Bloom mountains. Pause a while to take in the spectacular views from this point before we start on our walk over the top of the mountain towards Glenbarrow Waterfall. The views on this trek are truly magnificent taking in the Wicklow mountains to the east and Connemara to the west.
We rest a while at "The Stoney Man" before descending on the board walk which was erected to protect the flora and habitat of the mountain.
Native Red Grouse may suddenly rise from the heather with its distinctive call. Hen Harriers unique only to a few areas in Ireland may be seen soaring above the landscape as we make our way down to the River Barrow.
Having just left its birth place the waters rush down the valley to the popular Glenbarrow Waterfalls before making its way to the less hectic lowlands below. Finish at car park below and return to our hotel.

Day 5
Short drive towards the quaint village of Glasson. From here we walk on a quiet public road past scenic Glasson Golf Club and uphill where we take in the panoramic view of lough Ree.
Descending into Portlick Millenium forest the path takes along the edge of the lake. Exiting the wood we pass through the grounds of Portlick Castle through Nolans wood making our way back to our collection point with Lough Ree in our sights as we return.

Day 6
Relaxation Day:
Tour to the Clonmacnoise. Founded by Saint Ciaran in the 5th century this proposed world heritage site is one of Irelands most popular and must visit tourist destinations.
Next we visit "Larrys Minature Village" in Belmont. Over to you Larry!!!!
On to Birr Castle Demesne. See Irelands historic science centre, explore 50 ha of parklands, visit the magnificent formal gardens, terraces and discover Birrs world famous engineering and astronomical wonder "The Great Telescope" .
We have a range of equally impressive walks to fall back on if weather conditions or other unforeseen factors dictate.
Day 7
Departure day
After breakfast you will be brought back to Athlone Bus Station where buses leave hourly for Dublin Airport. If you are travelling by car you may leave at your own convienance after you check out from your hotel room.
